22. An Ill Day In

Still feeling a bit under the weather today but had Rise of the Planet of the Apes in the evening to look forward to.
I think I ordered this dress from La Redoute -possibly one of those 'everyone else is ordering ssomething so I might as well'. I'm wearing it with old grey woollen leggings and  my lovely burgundy cable knit cardigan from Ju Ju. I've never worn these together before but they go quite nicely.

21. Yellow Tights and Stress

Feeling a bit crap and under the weather today, plus I'm stressing about starting at City College and everything is looking a little doom and gloom at the moment.
Anyway, on the up side I was wearing yellow tights and belt which is always good.

This dress is a hand me down from Phoebe, originally from Primark. I don't think I actually like it that much and it's pretty badly made but I don't have anything else with polka dots and it does have an interesting frilly bit of detail on the front.

This is another vintage Earwig and Bean bag found under the stairs, it's so cute but struggles with holding anything bigger than a purse and phone.

20. Shirt and Sleep

Not much happened today, I woke up at lunch time after the best sleep ever and spent the rest of the day unpacking and mooching around the house.
I made this dress out of an old shirt of dad's inspired by a similar dress I saw in Red Mutha a local brighton shop that sells weird hand made and recycled clothes. I put some elastic in the back to give it some shape and cut the sleeves off and sewed them round the bottom to make it longer.
I know the picture isn't very clear but there are little red ruffles around the collar and there were red appliqued hearts on the front but I pulled them off becaause they looked stupid.

14-19. Reading Festival

So we got back from reading yesterday all in one piece and I simply can't express how good my bed felt last night! We didn't take many pictures but I did manage to wear a dress a day, here they are . . .

Sunday, 28th August 2011
After lugging all our stuff from White camp to the pick up point it was such a relief to have mum waiting for us with the car! I wore this navy blue H&M jersey dress (it's the one I also have in red) with the grey hoody I seem to have lived in for the past week. Here I am in our hallway with my bloody rucksack that is practically as heavy as I am (I tried and failed to pack light).
I never, ever want to wear these wellies ever again.

Saturday, 27th August 2011
Saturday was another day off which was mostly spent lying around in the tent. This grey dress was an unusual find in one of those little shops that seem to sell the same clothes as all the other ones. I really like the leather straps with buckles and buttons (one of which is missing).
The tights and long sleeve top don't look great but were necessary due to annoyingly changeable weather.
It hadn't rained in a while so the mud was more manageable but it was still a bit tricky. We went to the Main Arena again this time to see Two Door Cinema Club who were good but more importantly Madness who were great and so much fun!
Unfortunately, because we had to get up at one in the morning the next day for our one to nine shift we missed Pulp and The Strokes which I am gutted about because I really wanted to see them.

Friday, 26th August 2011

Today it was so wet and cold I had to wear trousers and waterproofs for my shift. The rain made it a bit miserable and telling people to not pitch their tents in the fire lanes or giving them directions to Green Camp started to get boring. Once work was over I changed into this T-shirt dress from Topshop with a pretty lace print down the front.
It was actually Colette's until a few weeks ago when I spotted it in her wardrobe and after a few blatant hints about how nice it was and how she never wears it, it was mine. This now brings my dress total up from 34 to 35!
We went to the Main Arena in the evening and saw 30 Seconds To Mars and Beady Eye. The mud in and around the Main Arena was horrendous! honestly, it's as bad as it looks in all the newspapers.

Thursday, 25th August 2011

Today as our day off which we spent meeting up with a group of friends who had paid to be at he festival, and walked to Tesco which was really far away and I got a bit pissed off with it all.
Bought this dress from the Marina boot fair for £4 last Summer, it is originally from Topshop and had only been worn a few times.

We also queued for about an hour to get the 'over 18' wristband -the pink one on the right- which meant that you didn't have to take your passport around with you.
Wednesday, 24th 2011

Today was a lot nicer for our volunteer induction and first shift, I wore my newest dress from H&M I got a few months ago, I think it was only £8, bargain!
We were assigned to Red Campsite which turned out to be the furthest away from White as you could get, this outfit was fine for the first 4 hours of our shift but in the 3 hour break we got I changed into jeans and a T-shirt in the evening

Tuesday, 23th August 2011
I bought this dress in an H&M in Germany on a school trip about 4 years ago. Its a halterneck and makes me feel like summer, unfortunately the weather wasn't feeling as summery as me.
This is the corner of the volunteers section of White Camp where we pitched our tents, as yet pretty empty and un-muddy.
We arrived around lunch time and had a little wander round the rest of the campsites which are huge, I can't quite imagine it filled up with tents.

13. Hawain

Today I wore a Summery Hawain print dress I bought from kid's H&M many years ago, once again I'm not sure how it still fits me but I'm just glad it does!
The pannels of the skirt have different Hawain theme prints, my favourite being the little dancing hula girls with red lipstic and guitars.
So tomorrow Colette, Amy and I are off to Reading to steward which should be fun (if it doesn't rain too much that is) which means that I won't be able to do any posts but never fear, the dress challenge continues and I will try my best to wear a dress a day and post them when I get back.

12. Blue and Pink

Wandering round town this morning, takng photos, exchanging euros for pounds, trying to find salt tablets and bemoaning the fact that a Starbucks frappucino is now £3.20 when the hell did it get that expensive! And how can they justify charging that much? To be honest I never really bought that much Starbucks in the first place but it just makes me mad.

Colette and I decided to rebel against society and boycott Starbucks by going to Sainsbury's and buying vanilla ice cream and Nesquik strawberry drink powder and make our own milkshakes!

Today I wore a dress that I've had for so long I can hardly remember when I got it or where it came from. The blue and pink go so nicely together and I like all the different parts; the blue printed pattern, the embroidery and the pink inside of the front layer.

The last time I really remember wearing this dress was a family holiday to France in 2007 or 8, I'm not quite sure how it still fits.

11. Fire and Floppy Hat

The family and I went for a little picnic up at dad's workshop today complete with a nice bit of sun and a blazing fire (in fact, so enthusiastic was dad's fire making that we had to get up and move the picnic further away from it at least three times for fear of being scorched!)
I bought this dress quite a few years ago from TK Max for I can't remember how much, it is Kalvin Klein Jeans so I have no idea how much it was before it came to TK Max. I love it because it is so comfortable and simple -feels like I could run through a field of corn or climb a tree in it.
The hat is at least four years old, just a little bit too floppy theses days for my liking.

We had another reason to go to the workshop; to take pictures for the start of the art and design foundation degree I am going to do at City College Brighton in September. One of the briefs was to take a picture of yourself re-invented as a house, as is obvious I decided on tree houses.

Here is mum helping me attach little cardboard tree houses to me
(lots of safety pins and brown tape)

10. Sun, Sandals and So Much Walking

Today it looked sunny in the morning, and then, 'gasp' it was sunny!
Went for "a little trip to the charity shops on London road" this morning with Pheebs which turned out to be a massive trek into town and back. Then, to make it worse I had to go back to London road again in the afternoon to sort out my bank account and collect some photos. One trip to London road is more than enough, but TWO in one day was horrendous!

This dress is originally from La Redoute but was given to me by Kezia (again) a few years ago. I tried to jazz this outfit up a bit with a rose print headscarf and Topshop metallic gladiator sandals, not to mention my extremely shiny cameo ring that definitely doesn't get worn as much as it should.

9. Results and Really Heavy Earings

So today was A Level results day.
I can't honestly say that I've been loosing sleep over it but still, it was quite exciting when it actually came to opening the large brown envelope even though I'd left it really late and there was almost no one there.
I made a little bit of an effort today by wearing huge gold and green earings that weigh a tonne and I think were Phoebe's when she was at college. I also tried to do my hair nicely but by the time I had wlked all the way to Varndean college and struggled across the field I looked decidedly windswept and dishevelled! This wouldn't have bothered me as much if I had not had my picture taken just after I opened my results to be made into posters and stuck up all round the college!
(awful blurry picture I know but it's the only full length one we took)
Went to the library and then to Nero's with mum for celebratory hot chocolate
I bought this dress in a local charity shop for a few pounds and altered it slightly to make the straps longer but it is a bit of an odd shape: baggy around the waist and has a slit up the back (to let your legs move) that is just that inch too long.
These brogues were another happy suprise from Primark, only £8 and they look so much more expensive, although I have had to have them re-heeled, well, you get what you pay for I suppose.

8. Strawberries and Blackberries

Today we went on a family day out to Hever Castle, Anne Boleyn's childhood home, and here it is complete with ivy covered walls and moat.

I am wearing a lovely halterneck, strawberry print H&M dress which I am not entirely sure is mine or if it is just being left in my wardrobe for safe keeping by Phoebe until she dicides she wants it back!

Although I didn't actually go in the house itself the gardens around it were really beautiful especially the walled rose gardens and long walkways covered in grape vines and wisteria. While exploring the grounds Kezia and I happened upon some blackberry bushes and couldn'y resist a quick snack, I think that there is something so satisfying about picking fruit!

p.s. I wasn't the only one in Converse today, but we matched quite nicely so that was alright.

7. Lazy Day in Lilac

Sunny is amazing and I love her!
(says Sunny sitting next to me as I type)

Today was a bit of a lazy day in this lilac tea dress that was once my mum's. I dressed it down with turned up jeans (because it was actualy really cold) but it has the potential to be more summery and sophisticated if worn with heels (on a sunny day).

6. Pancakes and Potted Plants

Sadly Colette is now in France which means I am slightly lacking in willing (and unemployed) photographers!
Had a bit of a lazy day today that started brilliantly with pancakes and maple syrup for breakfast.
Didn't venture very far with mum for these pictures, the front steps in fact!
I don't think I have worn this dress in years, I bought it from Greenwich Village in the North Laines and it's always been a bit I-like-it-I-don't-like-it-I-like-it-again. It has a nice mix of flowers, stripes, embroidery and beads around the top.

I love the shops in Brighton, there are all the big names as well as a huge variety of little boutiques and unique shops -so much better than London! (and we've got the sea)
